There are many issues facing the country that must be dealt with after the 2006 election.
We can elect Senators who will have to compromise and submit to the pResident's whim on almost every action they take. We may actually gain control of the Senate but we won't get veto the 2/3rd's necessary to control legislation or succeed in an impeachment bid.
We have a very good chance of taking back the house and we may even pass articles of impeachment, but without 2/3rd's of the Senate impeachment will not succeed.
We will probably gain control of a few more governorships and State congresses but their power in national politics is limited.
I found a true progressive politician who is running for a position which will have the unfettered ability to immediately affect many issues that are facing the country right now.
Think big red State, Hint: not Eliot Spencer.
I have been checking into the candidates attempting to replace Louis Gohmert as the congressional representative for the first district of Texas.
Roger Owen, website, posted his opinions on minimum wage at MyDD.com and was banned for an opinion that the moderator did not agree with. Not only did the moderator ban him, but he bastardized his username in an act that can be seen as defamatory.
I went over the numbers and determined that the TX-01 district was designed, during redistricting, to be a Democratic district but Louis Gohmert was able to get the seat due to the overwhelming support for George Bush in the General Election.
We can win this district.
See below the fold for the specifics on why I believe he was defamed.

There is, what I call, the Superman vs The Wicked Witch factor. Did Hackett get a 25% turnover of voters due to his charisma alone? Look at the 6'5" marine major riding his hog on local television outlets and greeting voters compared to the late middle aged woman with bags around her bags. If they want a poster child for the justification of the plastic surgery industry they would be well advised to get (hic) Representative Schmidt.
